New York, NY (ceramics handmade in Vietri sul Mare, Italy) · Est. 2022 · Founded by Sophie & Kiki Weill (sisters)
Sophie and Kiki Weill were in Italy when a cooking class changed everything. The chef kept repeating two words throughout the lesson -- piano piano, slowly slowly -- and something clicked. The sisters came home and built a tableware brand around that philosophy, sourcing handmade ceramics from artisans in Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi Coast: vibrant, individually hand-painted pieces designed to bring color, presence, and a little Italian slowness to every table.
Sophie and Kiki Weill were already attuned to beauty and good taste when they traveled to Italy and took a cooking class that reframed everything. The chef kept repeating piano piano throughout -- slowly, slowly -- as a way of working, as a way of eating, as a philosophy for being present in a moment rather than rushing through it. The sisters recognized something in those two words that they wanted to bring home with them.
They founded Piano Piano in 2022 and set off along the Amalfi Coast in search of the finest ceramicists they could find, eventually landing in Vietri sul Mare -- the small Italian town that has been producing some of the world's most vibrant majolica ceramics for centuries. Every piece in the Piano Piano collection is individually handcrafted and hand-painted there by local artisans: coffee cups, platters, pitchers, bowls, all in the saturated, sun-soaked colors of the Italian coast. No two are exactly alike. The variation is the whole point.
On a registry, Piano Piano is the table that announces itself -- the collection that makes a Sunday morning espresso feel like a ritual worth slowing down for, and a dinner party feel like it's already happening in someone's Amalfi kitchen.
