Penguin Random House

Penguin Random House

In 1934, a young British publisher named Allen Lane was stuck at Exeter station after visiting Agatha Christie and couldn't find a single good book to read on the train home. He decided to fix that -- and Penguin was born. In 1927, two New Yorkers named Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer decided to publish a few books on the side. "At random," they said. In 2013 the two houses merged into the world's largest publisher. Add the title that belongs on your shelf.
