New York, NY · Est. 2018 · Founded by Mike Zung and Alex Bates
Mike Zung and Alex Bates launched Bloomist in New York in 2018 with a single idea: make nature home. Not as an aesthetic gesture, but as a genuine philosophy -- working with over 90 artisans across the globe to bring handmade ceramics, dried botanicals, woven textiles, and nature-carved objects into the spaces where people actually live. The world is loud. Bloomist makes it quieter.
Mike Zung and Alex Bates met through a mutual friend, discovered they shared the same instinct about the home -- that it should feel like a refuge, not a showroom -- and built Bloomist around it in 2018. Alex, a sustainable design consultant and creative director, brought the eye. Mike brought the entrepreneurial drive. Together they built a network of over 90 artisans across India, Guatemala, Tunisia, Honduras, and beyond, sourcing dried botanicals, hand-carved wooden chains, clay-bead garlands, stoneware vessels, and woven textiles -- each piece made with genuine craft and a clear provenance.
The timing was instinctive and then suddenly prescient: when the world went indoors in 2020, Bloomist was exactly what people were looking for. Something calm, something handmade, something connected to the natural world. Featured in Martha Stewart and carried at Marché Maman pop-ups in New York, the brand grew without ever chasing trend. The collection changes with the seasons -- there are always new makers, new botanicals, new objects -- but the ethos never does. On a registry, Bloomist is the category that makes the whole list feel considered.
