Susan Kolowich spent 25 years as a retailer, designer, wife, and mother before she finally made the time to paint. One summer she packed up her children on a whim, rented an apartment in Paris and a room on a Normandy farm, and spent weeks sketching everything around them -- museum masterpieces, countryside roads, even the graffiti scrawled across Parisian monuments that turned out to be quietly beautiful. She came home and started French Graffiti. That was 2012. She hasn't stopped painting since.
Susan Kolowich always knew she was an artist. She just spent 25 years doing other things first -- building a retail business, raising a family, designing spaces, living a full and satisfying life that kept the sketchbook just slightly out of reach. Then one summer she decided not to wait any longer. She packed up her children, rented an apartment in Paris and a room on a Normandy farm, and gave everyone permission to do nothing but look at the world and draw what they saw.
They sat on museum floors and painted their impressions of the masterpieces around them. They wandered city and countryside with sketchbooks. They found beauty in places they hadn't expected -- including the graffiti scrawled across Paris' monuments, which had a rawness and purity that stayed with Susan long after they came home. French Graffiti was born from that summer, founded in Marietta, Georgia in 2012.
Every design in the collection is Susan's original artwork, hand-drawn and proprietary, printed to order on 100% cotton and pre-washed linen and canvas. Tea towels, table linens, pillows, totes -- objects made to live in a kitchen or on a table and bring a small daily dose of joy. Slight imperfections and slubs in the fabric are part of the point. On a registry, French Graffiti is the gift that feels personal in a way that's hard to explain -- like something someone chose specifically for you, because it has a soul.
