Maria and Laura, a mother and daughter from Bogotá, founded Coro Cora in 2021 with a single mission: to bring Colombia's extraordinary weaving traditions into the contemporary home. Working directly with women-led artisan cooperatives across the country, they create handwoven trays, placemats, and baskets from natural fibers -- each piece made slowly, made well, and made to last.
Coro Cora began with something Maria and Laura kept coming back to: Colombia has one of the richest craft traditions in the world, and almost none of it was making its way into the international design conversation. In 2021, the Bogotá-based mother-daughter duo set out to change that -- not by manufacturing, but by building real, lasting relationships with weaving cooperatives and artisan communities across the country.
Every piece in the Coro Cora collection is made by hand, using natural fibers with a minimal ecological footprint, by women artisans who receive fair wages and sustainable income. The forms are contemporary -- sculptural trays, woven placemats, intricately crafted baskets -- but the techniques are ancestral, passed down through generations in communities that have been making this way long before anyone was calling it design.
