Laurel and Andrew Newton were stuck in traffic on the way home from design jobs that weren't doing it for them when Galley & Fen came together. The premise was simple: simple things should be beautiful. Founded in Salt Lake City in 2016, the husband-and-wife studio designs European-inspired copper kitchenware, embroidered linens, and heritage home goods -- handmade by artisans, built to be heirlooms.
Laurel Newton has always been obsessed with European design -- the kind that doesn't rely on flourish or trend, just honest materials and timeless form. She and her husband Andrew were working design jobs in Salt Lake City in 2016 when the frustration finally became a plan. Everything they loved was either impossible to find or priced out of reach. So they started designing it themselves.
Galley & Fen is built around a single motto: simple things should be beautiful. Every product in the collection -- hand-hammered copper pitchers and colanders, embroidered linen tablecloths, woven placemats, botanical aprons -- is designed in-house by Laurel and Andrew, then made by hand by a small network of trusted artisans. Copper produced by a family-owned workshop. Linens woven in India to their exact specifications. Ceramics thrown by a local potter with nearly three decades of experience. The result is a collection that feels gathered over time from European markets and farmhouse kitchens, not ordered from a warehouse. On a registry, Galley & Fen is the category that makes a table look like it has history -- even on the very first dinner.
