Léa Zana grew up going to French flea markets with her grandmother, hunting for vibrant mismatched ceramics and absorbing a love of the eclectic table that never left her. She built a career in fashion, then during lockdown found herself longing for the mealtimes she'd grown up with -- and pivoted entirely. Vaisselle, which simply means dishes in French, launched in London in 2020: handmade ceramics made in Spain with local clay and natural pigments, inspired by antique bistro tableware and designed to be collected slowly, mixed freely, and used every single day.
Léa Zana's earliest table memories were made in French flea markets with her grandmother, running her hands over mismatched ceramics and learning that the most beautiful tables were never perfectly matched -- they were gathered, layered, and full of personality. She carried that sensibility into a career in fashion and then, during the stillness of lockdown in London, she came back to it. The mealtimes she was missing weren't complicated. They were just set with care. She decided to make the dishes.
Vaisselle -- the French word for dishes, deliberately simple -- launched in 2020 as a sustainable tableware brand designed by Léa and handmade in Spain using traditional techniques, local clay, and natural pigments. Each piece is inspired by antique ceramics and the visual world of French and Mediterranean bistros -- chunky rims, earthy glazes, saturated colors that look better in combinations than alone. Every item is designed to be interchangeable, collected slowly, and mixed freely over time. No matching sets required. The whole point is the personality that builds as you add pieces.
Carried at Liberty London, Anthropologie, and Lane Crawford. On a registry, Vaisselle is the table that grows with a couple -- a carafe here, a set of plates there, a serving bowl for a birthday -- until it looks exactly like them.
